34 - Dec 2007 - -Bombay PhD student kills self- TOI

TNN, Aug 12, 2007, 01.32am IST
MUMBAI: Barely six hours after steel baron Lakshmi Mittal, speaking at IIT-Powai, said IITians were synonymous with success, a 27-year-old PhD student from the institute committed suicide by hanging himself in his hostel room on Friday night.

 Bal Krishna Gupta
, who came from Kanpur, was registered with the department of inorganic chemistry last year. This is the fourth case of suicide by a student at IIT-Powai in the last four years.

Gupta left behind three notes in his hostel room, addressed to his parents and brothers. The notes gave a list of persons who owed him money and those he had borrowed from, along with their contact details. He did not blame anyone for his death though.

Powai police, who registered a case, said the motive was not clear. On Friday night, a friend called Gupta for dinner but he declined. This was the last time a fellow hosteler spoke to him.

"On Saturday morning, his friends called him for breakfast but there was no response from his room. They then headed towards the laboratory, not imagining that something could have gone wrong," said zonal deputy police commissioner K M M Prasanna.

After finishing their lab work, Gupta's friends once again went to his room to call him for lunch. This time too he did not respond, arousing their suspicion.

Gupta's friends then called other hostelers and broke open the door. They found him hanging from the ceiling fan. The boys immediately informed the authorities who later informed the Powai police around 3.30 pm. The body was taken to the Rajawadi post mortem centre for an autopsy.

In one of the suicide notes, he asked his parents' forgiveness. The note stated, "I wanted to be your good son. Now I'm going", an investigating officer said.

A student with his extra ordinary talent made him get through in this type institute. Do you think, it is this quality which forces them to do such things or some thing else. Which was happened but not specified let me clear, in my opinion factor is little bit twisted ... it may be the money factor...but also the environment in which IIT ians live...not only IITians but also other students...In my opinion, major reasons would be...*Bad performance in exams...if he/she good at academics then it will depress him ultimately...*pressure of professors is also may b one of the factors...*Another & important for youth. is fall in desperate love & ultimately....* Pressure from family for better result.... If anybody fined another reasons specify it.In my opinion all above are possible ...So that one must think over the factors that I have included...Enjoy every section of life but leaving this last section.
