IIT student commits suicide by jumping off from hostel roof

Bhubaneswar: A student of the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Bhubaneswar allegedly committed suicide by jumping off from the six-storey hostel building here on Monday evening.
The deceased has been identified as Chirag Pravin Jain of Maharashtra. Chirag was an academically bright 2nd-year Computer Science Engineering student. He was staying at Mahanadi Hall of the resident hostel on the campus.
According to the initial reports, Chirag had sustained injuries after he allegedly jumped off from the six-storey building of the hostel yesterday evening. He was immediately rescued and rushed to the hospital where doctors declared him ‘brought dead’.
While the exact cause behind the death of the youth is yet to be ascertained, it is suspected that he might have committed suicide. Police have registered a case and launched a probe into the incident.
IIT-Bhubaneswar has condoled the death of the student. “This is indeed an irreparable loss to the institute and the family. May his soul rest in peace,” the institution said.
